Meet Ms. Candice
Growing up in South Africa surrounded by nature, had a profound impact on me, and to this day I feel most at home and alive when outside in earth’s playground. I often remember looking longingly out the window of a school classroom just wanting to get out of the four walls I felt so confined in. I was a gymnast and dancer in my youth. When I watched the sunrise over the dunes of the Namibian desert, it brought back that same feeling I used to get as a gymnast and dancer when I was completely in the moment with the movements moving through me, all thought suspended.
After I finished school, I was able to travel throughout Africa as a host for a children’s TV show, and I have such amazing memories of that time. It left me searching for what I now call, “the space between” where all thought is suspended, and you are living authentically in the present moment.
When I took my first Yoga class that elusive but familiar feeling returned and I knew I had found a path that I wanted to continue. I completed my Yoga teacher training through Yoga Works in 2005 and began teaching. I have since graduated to become an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) 200 and have lead teacher trainings and certified over 100 teachers to teach yoga at the RYT 200 and advanced levels. I also had the honor of being chosen by Lululemon as an ambassador. Along with teaching, I have also managed a yoga studio. In addition to leading, I have attended extensive trainings and workshops and am further certified to teach Vinyassa Flow, Iyengar, Hot Power Fusion, Power, Sculpt, Yin Yoga, Power Fusion, and meditation. I am also a Reiki energy healing practitioner and sound healer.
I truly consider teaching Yoga sacred work and a great honor. I have witnessed the profound impact yoga has had on my life and the life of my students. I consider my students my teachers and am inspired to show up and be present, playful and share my love for these magical passes we know as “Yoga” inspiring my students to meet themselves exactly as they are.
When reflecting upon my education, I feel my true training has been gifted to me by my amazing children. They teach me to be present every day and to show up without an agenda. I have seen the benefit of doing yoga with my children and look forward to sharing that magic with the children in Head, Heart, and Hands.
My favorite teaching quote comes from Bruce Lee...
A good teacher protects his pupils from his own influence. A teacher is never a giver of truth; he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself. I am not teaching you anything, I just help you to explore yourself.
Along the way my intention is that we experience many smiles, tons of laughter, and an overall feeling of love and respect for one another, the earth, and all living beings.
